xCloud ComputePro
Private Beta
xCloud ComputePro is currently in private beta and only available after manual approval.
Overview
xCloud ComputePro provides you with a native OpenStack cloud environment for flexibly deploying virtual machines, networks, and storage. You manage your resources through the modern Skyline dashboard.
Unlike xCloud Compute, which offers simplified VM management directly in the xCloud web app, ComputePro gives you direct access to an OpenStack environment – with your own networks, multiple volume storage classes, snapshots, backups, custom images, floating IPs, and load balancers.
Getting Started
Activate the ComputePro subscription
Before you can use ComputePro, you need to activate the subscription:
- Navigate to the ComputePro section
- Review the available flavors and their prices – as long as the subscription is not yet active, they are shown directly on the product page; the pricing details button opens the pricing overview at any time
- Click Activate and confirm the terms of service
Activate a region
After activating the subscription, the My regions section lists all available regions with their site and status (Active / Inactive). To get started, activate at least one region:
- Click Activate on the desired region
- Confirm the dialog to place the binding order
Activating a region sets up an OpenStack project for you in that region. The region then shows a Skyline Dashboard button that opens the region's OpenStack management interface.
Working with the Skyline dashboard
The actual resource management happens in the Skyline dashboard of the respective region. There you create and manage, among other things:
- Instances (virtual machines) based on the available flavors
- Networks, routers, and floating IPs
- Volumes in the storage classes Standard, Core, Boost, and Turbo
- Snapshots, backups, and custom images
- Load balancers
Available flavors
Flavors differ in their specifications and are available per region. For each flavor, the pricing overview shows:
- vCPUs: number of virtual CPU cores
- RAM: memory
- Disk: ephemeral storage of the instance
- Price: cost per hour
Clicking a flavor opens the price details with all price components of the region (see Billing).
Deactivate a region
A region can only be deactivated once no resources are in use anymore. So first delete all instances, volumes, images, and other resources in the Skyline dashboard.
- Click Deactivate on the active region
- Confirm the dialog
Important: Deactivating a region completely tears down the region's OpenStack project. This action cannot be undone.
Cancel the subscription
The subscription cannot be cancelled while regions are still activated. Deactivate all regions first, then you can end the subscription via Deactivate on the product page.
Billing
Billing is usage-based per activated region; there is no base fee for the subscription or for activated regions.
The monthly values shown in the pricing overview are estimates based on an average of 730 hours/month – what is billed is the actual usage in the respective month.
The price components in detail:
- Instances, floating IPs, and load balancers are billed per hour based on actual usage
- Volume storage (Standard, Core, Boost, Turbo), snapshots, backups, and custom images are billed per GB per month; the hourly value is derived from that
- Egress traffic is billed per GB and summed up over the month
All prices in the pricing overview are shown excluding VAT.
